🗺️ Bali areas & getting around
Why 15 km can take an hour, plus a quick orientation to Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Uluwatu and more.
Bali's distances look short on the map — journeys rarely feel that way.
Short distances, slow journeys
A 15 km trip can take an hour or more: single-lane roads, scooters, ceremonies, school and rush hours. Leave a generous buffer for flights and bookings, and check a map app on the day rather than relying on distance.
Kuta / Legian
Busy, budget-friendly, close to the airport. Good for first nights or short layovers. Lively and touristy. Catch: heavy traffic and street noise.
Seminyak
Beach clubs, dining and shopping. Polished and social. Catch: parking and beach-road traffic jam up at sunset.
Canggu / Berawa / Pererenan
Surfers, remote workers and longer stays. Cafés, co-working and rice-field views. Catch: narrow roads, often jammed, especially at peak hours.
Ubud
Inland and cultural, surrounded by rice terraces and forest. Calmer, wellness-focused. Catch: a real drive from the coast, so beach days need planning.
Sanur
Quieter and family-friendly, with calmer water than the west coast. Catch: limited nightlife compared with Kuta or Seminyak.
Nusa Dua / Jimbaran
Resort-heavy, gated and orderly. Jimbaran is known for seafood dinners on the beach. Family and resort holidays. Catch: independent exploring takes more effort.
Uluwatu
Clifftop views, surf breaks and beach clubs on the Bukit peninsula. Catch: roads to and from the Bukit are steep, narrow and slow.
Amed / Lovina
Quiet north and east coast towns with diving, snorkelling and black-sand beaches. Catch: getting there from the south takes a real chunk of a day — check a map app before booking.
